Imagine
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. -Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)
Don’t just read those words, feel the power of those words: God. Is. Able. The word able is translated from the Greek word dunamis, which means explosive or power.
God does not have power. He is power.
There is no situation, no lack, no roadblock you will face that is too much for His power.
What is God able to do? He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Imagination is a powerful tool that can help lead us to a new reality. However, what God is able to do goes infinitely beyond our imagination, “greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams” (Amplified).
Our imagination cannot contain all the possibilities that exist in God’s power. In Luke 1 Mary questions how it is possible to have conceived a child because she was a virgin, but she accepts the angel’s answer and declares,
“Nothing will be impossible with God.” She didn’t have to understand it to believe that it was true, because she believed in a powerful God.
The story in 2 Kings 4 is about a woman in desperation who cries out to the prophet Elisha for help. She knew her problem but had no solution. The problem: A creditor was going to take her children to be slaves to pay her dead husband's debts. As the story unfolds, Elisha instructs her to do a crazy thing--collect as many jars as she could and begin filling them from the limited resource she had available. I can almost feel her desperation as she hurriedly borrowed jars from all her neighbors and the shock and awe as she experienced God's provision through an unimaginable miracle.
It wasn’t just enough. It was more than enough.
In the midst of pain in our marriage and lives, we can often find ourselves void of hope. We find our inability to change the circumstances often cause us to dwell on what appears to be a hopeless situation. I’m not trying to offer platitudes, but I do know that at least from my experiences, I have encountered God’s intervention in many, what appeared to be “hopeless”, situations. Most of the time His intervention did not come in the timeframe I would have preferred, but when the change or healing came, it exceeded my expectations. The point is if we believe for nothing, sure we may not be disappointed, but if we believe that nothing is impossible with God, He just may exceed our expectations.
PRAYER: Father, I partner with you and make agreement today with what you say over my life. Like Mary, I say, “Nothing is impossible with you.” Even when I can’t see it, I believe you are working. Your provision is not limited by my ability to conceive possibility but by your power. I bring my thoughts into alignment with your truths and believe you are able to do superabundantly more than I could even ask (speak whatever situation you need God to intervene). Amen.
